Obtaining an opt-in from customers before sending marketing communications has become increasingly important over recent years.
With the adoption of new consumer privacy regulations such as the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in the USA, it’s more important than ever for e-commerce brands to understand and abide by new legislation popping up all over the world.
Carts Guru gives you two choices regarding your opt-in. You can decide if you want your emails to be “permissive” or “strict”, and if you want your SMS to be “permissive” or “strict”.
When you choose “permissive” for either channel, you will not send messages to customers who have opted-out, but you will send messages to customers who haven’t expressly opted-in.
If you choose “strict” for either channel, you will only send marketing messages to customers who have opted-in.
Due to regulations already in place, we strongly recommend any businesses sending SMS marketing messages to customers in the USA, Canada or the EU to use “strict” mode.
To select your opt-in modes, go to the Privacy Center on your Carts Guru app, then scroll down to “Opt-In Mode”.
It’s important to note that a customer has to perform an action for the “opt-in” to be valid. This means that if you have an opt-in box on your website that is automatically checked and requires customers to un-check if they want to opt-out this does not count as an opt-in.
If you have an opt-in box on your website, we suggest setting it to ‘unchecked’ by default so that the customer has to perform an action to opt-in
